Phoenix WinTab 7, 8 & 10 Hands-On: Windows 8 starting at Php6k
The selection of Windows 8 tablets available for an affordable price is getting wider, and Phoenix’s WinTabs are proof to that statement.
The Phoenix WinTabs are available in three sizes – 7-inch, 8-inch and 10-inch models, all running Intel’s class of Bay Trail Z3735 quad-core CPUs. All of them pack screen resolutions of 800 x 1280 which looked great, and they all have 2 megapixel front and rear cameras. The WinTabs are also running full Windows 8.1 with Office 365 for 1 year, which is nice to have for something that they are promoting as an affordable device aimed for productivity.
Aside from the design, the ports & the batteries, the only major difference that you can find between these tablets is that the WinTab 10 packs 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage as opposed to the WinTab 7 & 8’s 1GB RAM + 16GB internal storage.
As for our experience with the devices, we liked how compact the smaller WinTabs are, especially with the WinTab 8 having thin bezels; we often mistook it as the 7-incher. They’re all built really well, but we do have some gripes with the rear design: the WinTab 8 has a weirdly placed camera, and all of them have labels on all the ports making the devices look quite cheap. The WinTab 10 looks best though, with its unique metallic design dominating the back.
Another special thing about the WinTab 10 is that it is compatible with a keyboard case and will be bundled in as initial promotion, but sooner or later it will be sold separately for Php2,350. The keyboard works okay for its price, but we’d still recommend using a mouse if you get one. Fortunately, micro-USB to USB adapters are bundled in with all of the devices when you get them.
